In DePaul's newest series, you will run into Frankie and Jake in the first novella. Frankie is a tree hugging environmentalist that works for the governor and meets Jake, the new head of security, 6 months earlier. Despite working together daily, she thinks he doesn't notice her. In reality, he noticed her the moment she said hi to him and knew she was his. You see Jake isn't your typical alpha male hero. No, he is a 200 year old hunky vampire. Not only that, Jake knows he has to gain Frankie's trust thanks to a previous experience when she was 17 that left her with a scar on her face. Now that he hashis mate in sight, taking it at her pace is the least of his worries as you will come to find out.
The good thing about DePaul's short novella, besides the sexual tension that oozes as you read, is the fact that Frankie and Jake have six months that they have known each other. If it was any other short novella and they just met I would find it difficult to follow. Jake is hot, hunky, and a softy towards his woman. However if you aren't Frankie, you don't want to be on his bad side, especially if you are trying to harm her.
Frankie is strong in the sense that she doesn't let an episode that left her scarred emotionally and physically rule her life. She is also a bit shy, but well liked. She did frustrate me with certain actions. I still enjoyed her.
The scenes were steamy. There is romance and mystery that makes you want to see what happens next with the way the book ended. I was able to read this novella in one sitting. The only thing I can say is I wish it was a chapter or two longer to make accepting that Jake is a vampire more believable. Other than that I enjoyed this passionate love quite a bit and can't wait to see what's next in this series.

A Vampire Salvation edition by Virna DePaul Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Loved it! A short story with a satisfying ending. Hot and steamy with just enough danger and intrigue to keep it from being erotica. Great characters, great romance, great developing, great author.
I've read a lot of vampire books but this one caught my interest by mainstreaming vampires into public life. Very similar to the Argeneau Series. A must read.
This was a fast and surprisingly great read! Vampire reads are a dime a dozen but GOOD ones are hard to find. This had more substance than the average novella and the love scenes were steamy but not over the top or too kinky. The characters were great and the plot was fairly good, however the ending was waaaaaay rushed which was a bit disappointing. Looking forward to reading more from this author though!
Is this the beginning of a series or is it over. I didn't know how to rate this book. It was enjoyable enough but, if it's a stand alone novel, I would pass. If it's a series of 100 page books, then I will also pass.
Overall, if I were you, I would wait until the above is decided. Otherwise, it's better to just save your money and get engrossed in a full novel by a different author.
DO NOT DEPEND ON THIS AUTHORS' WORD!
At the end of this novella, she promised more to come about the characters "soon". I've checked the publication date and it is 2012.
Since it is now the end of 2014 and no sequel has been published, it's highly doubtful there ever be any.
FOUR STARS The story itself was not bad, but given the short length of it, the character/world building was limited. (Although there are a few authors that can manage it regardless!) Also feels incomplete even with a resolution at the end.
-TWO STARS What was really bad? Numerous times the beginning or the end of sentences missing! It was really distracting, jolting me right out of the story.
The advertised length is misleading, as the story ends 63% of the way through. Great "lady & vampire modern" setting with well rounded main characters, but it has nothing else goung for it. This short story reads like the author did not know what to do for a climax on either the romance or the adventure plot, and so simply wrote a "happily ever after" summary. The villain does nothing more than pose! Basically, the writing quality steadily degrades rapidly after the free intro. Has two explicit sex scenes.
This $0.99 short is an overpriced excuse to push the authors other books.
This book is only 69 pages the other 20 pages are samples of unrelated tales. This is so not ok. If I knew the story was only 69 pages, my purchase wouldn't have been made. The author slaps you with tantalizing teaser then never returns to remove you from the cliffhanger. All that character and plot development wasted along with my time and interest. I am left feeling taken advantage of with the sentiment that the author betrayed my trust and did not fulfill our contract.
