I was surprised at the variation of the pages. I really enjoy books that break up the text. This does that by incorporating pictures and playing with the placement of the text on the page. It’s a nice book on self reflection.
I love this book and the quotes it has in it it gives a lot of perspective and into things that we see on his YouTube channel and how we see life because he has quotes on life and how things just doesn't work out for everybody. In this book would be good if you have dealt with depression or going through depression because it really shows what people have gone through it and how you need to remind yourself of things that will have them come out of the depression.
This book is like taking a look at someone's personal journal about their life with a dab of self-help added. Some of the topics might not resonate with people who are a bit older (I take that in the editing process, some of his essays were tiered toward his younger audience). A few of the topics covered in this book are depression, self-hatred, sexuality, break ups, media consumption.

It can be self-indulgent at times (Connor does state that the book is for himself in the dedication, so that's kind of a given), but you can find yourself in these pages because of the universal topics. It's nice how self-aware he is so even when it does dip into being self-indulgent, you can still appreciate what he is doing by sharing very intimate thoughts.

Even though Connor is a beginner when it comes to writing poetry, a lot of the poems are very nice and I found myself enjoying them more than I thought I would. Also, the photographs are beautiful. The actual physicality of the book is gorgeous, it's a very visually appealing book.

The books shines most when dealing with the topics of depression, sexuality, and heartbreak. Something that really stood out to me is that there are passages that were clearly written in a heightened emotional state (much like a stream of consciousness) and instead of cleaning it up, he left his raw emotions on the page. We all experience situations where our emotions get the best of us, but normally we don't share our irrational thoughts. Here Connor does and it's wonderfully vulnerable and honest. Overall this is a very nice, quick, and easy read that I will probably reach for again.
Connor Franta is a beautiful author and I love watching his YouTube videos. He is a brave soul and has a deep heart and story to share. The packaging for a single book is rather careless. it is literally a cardboard outline surrounding the book with practically no protection to the cover. I know it is needed to save costs but it ends up damaging the corners of my books. I only ordered here for the cheap pricing on the pre-order. However, I would like to see single books come in a box with protection such as air filled bags.
You don't have to be a Connor Franta fan to know that this book is amazing. You can tell that Connor has put his heart and soul into every page and picture in this book. If you're looking for a good book to sit and drink a cup a coffee with, this is the book. Not only is the writing amazing, but the book itself is so aesthetically pleasing to look at, I'd recommend you buy it just on that point alone. With that being said, read this book. Take some time for yourself, sit down and enjoy it. Because you will.

This book is truly beautiful. I didn't even read the first page of the book and the single sentence before the books starts hit me harder than anything I've read. This book is raw. It's not like someone is trying to sell you their persona; they are being real, raw, and honest about themselves. Connor is sharing some truly deep, personal and powerful messages about his life. I'm reading this book and honestly, want to highlight all of it. He shows his ability to relate and share genuine emotions that are being wrote out. He has taken the unexplainable emotions I've faced and put it in words.
I'll keep this simple and short. Note To Self puts to words and visuals something that most people find impossible to describe. It's a heartbreaking but inspiring account of a very unique set of circumstances that sheds light on sadly a very common occurrence in people's lives. It sugarcoats nothing and keeps the edges sharp, honesty running through every sentence. It's pure, and devastating, but beautiful and full of hopefulness. Read it for enlightenment and read it for perspective. Highly recommend, and highly highly praise. Well-written, well-organized, accompanied with the perfect visuals. One of my personal top choices.
